We have nearly hit the mid-point for Instructional Cycle 2. Results from interim assessments and formative assessments in Tier 2 classes can change the instructional level of some students. While the indication from best practices shows that student should remain in their small groups for 8+ weeks, some teachers may want to change the instructional level in TVAction to reduce the number of students who require intensive intervention.
Our first Munch and Mingle will be this Thursday in Washington, UT! We've invited all teachers who live near St. George to join us at the hotel from 4:00-6:00. Whenever a small group of the leadership team travels to different parts of the state, we want to gather our teachers and enjoy each other's company. We'll have snacks and drinks in an informal setting where we can chat, laugh, and swap stories!
There have been some great conversations in PLCs around instructional decisions based on student data. Kudos to Becky for establishing the PLC/MTSS processes so our teachers not only have authentic discussions, but they are supported as we move through the year!
The question has come up about the value of block classes in high school. Are there enough students who need the block option, or could they be served as well with a semester option? Do the students receive the same depth of content in a condensed course? Opinions?
Observation and Feedback
Finally! We have an online teacher observation/evaluation tool ready to go! One of the best parts is that it came as a benefit from the STEM grant that George received for UTVA. Training for the administrators and SPED coordinators will be Thursday from 12:30-3:30.
In response to feedback from the Academic Plan review, we are piloting a new format for PD and are including follow-up assignments from each session. This will be the first time our teachers will have both required and choice options for their professional development. Everyone has worked hard to create short yet meaningful mini-classes that will be accessed individually. Teachers will provide feedback and answer required questions from the sessions they attend as their exit ticket on the PD survey.
